The heart and soul of LIC, our Musical Directors lead, inspire and coach. Their favourite phrase? ‘On your pins!’ Meaning…Stand up!
Julian D. Mohr
Born and raised in Munich, Germany, Julian D. Mohr was musically active from a very young age. As a pianist and chamber music partner he won several prizes at the national youth music competition “Jugend musiziert”. A short academic detour took him to study Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicine, before he finished his music degree in Choral Conducting from the Munich University of Theatre and Performing Arts, conducting the Munich Symphonic Orchestra.
Julian has led a variety of choirs in Munich before moving to London, where he found LIC. At the beginning Julian shared a conducting baton with Paul Devlin before becoming LIC‘s only MD in September 2018. His background and rich experience in choir conducting together with his unique style and demand for perfection have moved LIC to another level of performing.
2014 – 2018
Born in Switzerland, Benjamin Froehlich studied Acting and Musical Theatre at the StageArt Musical & Theatre School and Choir Conducting at the University of Arts in Zurich before moving to London where he added another gem to his portfolio – Master of Arts degree in Musical Theatre from the Royal Academy of Music.
Ben founded LIC in 2014 and led the choir together with other co-MDs until 2018 when he left to pursue his acting career. Throughout the years LIC benefited from his rich education, history and experience: he has led and been involved with musical theatre shows, films and shorts, narrating, musical production and co-direction, writing, composing, teaching music theory and private singing lessons and of course, last but not least – choir conducting.
2016 – 2018
Paul was born in Scotland where he graduated from Strathclyde University with a BA in Applied Music, receiving the university’s Alexander Stone Award for excellence in the field of composition. Leaving the high hills of Scotland, he then went on to gain an MMus in Composition for Screen at London’s Royal College of Music. Paul’s renowned work as a composer includes writing music for concert hall, film, theatre, media and other projects.
As the co-Musical Director of LIC, Paul brought conducting, composition expertise and passion for musical excellence. He joined LIC on a cover basis for the summer 2016 season and became a full-time co-MD in September 2016 until the summer 2018 when he moved back to Scotland.
Our Executive Committee ensures that LIC works like a well-oiled machine – from day-to-day management to promotion, events planning and budget handling to efficient and engaging communication.
The creative heads of LIC go the extra mile sourcing programme materials from any corner of the world, shaping ideas for our concerts, and writing compelling concert stories that engage the audience.
